RMG North Shore Small Ball League Fall 2010

This November we will hold our third season of RMG Small Ball for 2nd and 3rd grade players. Sears School has already taken home 2 of 3 possible championships in the inaugural season and then again in the 2nd grade only division last winter. This season we will have up to 12 total teams comprised of some of the best 2nd and 3rd graders from around the area. Both A and B level divisions are offered this year.  Preceding the league we will hold a Small Ball Prep program beginning September 12th to be sure that everyone is sharp for the start of the season. Get your team together and get ready to bring home a championship!

Practices will be held at Hyde Park Day School in Northfield on Sunday afternoons. All players will be coached by RMG coaches for practices and games.

**2nd Grade Divison - CONGRATULATIONS TO SEARS SCHOOL **

After splitting their two regular season meetings, Sears School and Sacred Heart Viking White met for the RMG Small Ball Championship. Playing at the Winnetka Community House, Sears won a hard fought game to become the first ever 2nd grade champs! In the 3rd place game, Sacred Heart Viking Red took on Crow Island. In a great game, Sacred Heart Red was finally able to pull away late in the second half. Thanks to everyone for participating! We hope to see you all next season.

**3rd/4th Grade Divison - CONGRATULATIONS TO RMG WINNETKA **

The 3rd/4th division playoffs started off with a great game between Sacred Heart and the defending champion Sears School. Led by Peter Radler and Connor Rooney, Sears pulled out a tough 6 point win. Sacred Heart kept it close with terrific efforts from Timmy Crawford, Ward Madigan and Brian Kotin. In the day's second game, undefeated RMG Winnetka took on a feisty Faith Hope team. Faith Hope held tough but the Winnetka team once again proved too much as they took home the win. With a first-round bye, St. Francis was finally ready to take on Sears, two teams who split their season series. Sears started the first half and look poised to return to the championship. However, after Peter Radler left the game with an ankle injury, St. Francis was able to take advantage to come back and win by 3 points. In the championship, St. Francis and RMG Winnetka battled to a draw for nearly the whole game. In the end, Winnetka kept its undefeated championship season intact, helped by Anthony Hollerich's 3 straight baskets in the last 5 minutes. Congratulations to everyone on a great season! We hope to see you again soon!

Next Small Ball Program Fall 2010 (November 7th)!

Each team will represent a school i.e. Sacred Heart, Crow Island, Sears, etc. Each team 1 RMG coach and a parent assistant. Team rosters must be between 8 and 11 players. RMG may add a player or two if a team is short.

The season will run for 6 weeks including playoffs. Players will register through RMG and each team will receive uniforms, games schedule, practice times and coaching assistance from RMG. Teams will need to provide a scorekeeper at games.

While this league is a new addition to the RMG lineup we are already putting a lot into making it the best program available anywhere for young players. Not only will the kids get great instruction in a more "formally structured" league than is currently available, but will have a chance to play and develop with friends and teammates from their school. With proper instruction at a young age, players will be leaps and bounds ahead of the curve when it's time to play feeder, travel and AAU basketball.

  • Open to players in 2nd/3rd Grade '10/'11 School Year.
  • Competitive League, but all players get substantial playing time
  • Practice times TBD
  • Coaching by RMG staff and parents from each school
  • Players register individually, but will play for their school team
  • All teams receive game uniforms

Please spread the word!! This should be a great learning experience and a lot of fun for all involved. The sooner our teams are set the sooner we can distribute uniforms and set up practice times.
